Joseph Joiner, a son of Charles Joiner, was born in 1813 in McIntosh
County. He was married in 1835 to Susan Strickland, born 1819
in Tattnall County, a daughter of Richard Strickland and his wife,
Susan Barfield Strickland. To them were born nine children.
Mr. Joiner grew up in Wayne County, and after marriage located
in the 4th land district of what was then Appling County, and
was living there in the 1850, 1860, and 1870 Censuses. In the
early 1870s, his section of the 4th district was detached from
Appling and added to Wayne County, now known as the Screven District.
He lived there until his death about 1878. His widow, Susan, was
living at the time of the 1880 Census of Wayne County with their
youngest son John S. Joiner and his family. She lived with them
until her death about 1885.
